5 Top Tips for Apprentices in 2023

Businesses are looking to grow in 2023 and students are looking to get into the world of work. Read Emma’s apprenticeship top tips on how to get ready for an apprenticeship this year.

Emma’s top 5 tips

1 – Be curious about learning

Find an apprenticeship standard that you are curious about, not one that you need to do to meet a requirement at work, if you don’t enjoy the topic you’re going to learn about, you’re less likely to be engaged in the sessions or achieve the best outcome.

2 – Invest time in yourself

See the 20% off the job time as an investment in YOU, not as a chore or a box that must be ticked, YOU are definitely worth that investment in time and an apprenticeship will significantly benefit your long-term career aspirations.

3 – Choose the right training provider

Work with an apprenticeship provider who is interested in you and your business from day one, if they engage with you as a person, they are more likely to support you through the challenging points in your apprenticeship when you may lose your focus, they should be invested in you too.

4 – Find an accredited apprenticeship

An apprenticeship with an accreditation attached to it may be harder work but why take the easier option of the non-accredited route when you can develop the same knowledge, skills and behaviours and get 2 certificates at the end of your apprenticeship, not just one.

5 – Always ask questions

Ask questions and ask more questions throughout your apprenticeship, know and understand what is expected of you during your learning period and at the endpoint assessment, it’s your apprenticeship, after all, no one else’s.

Whether you’re straight out of college or 20 years into your current job role and looking for that next challenge, anyone can do an apprenticeship. There’s no upper age limit, as long as you’re 16 or over, living in the UK or EU for the past 3 years, employed and not on any other fully-funded training course you can become an apprentice.
